The corona virus, also known as COVID-19, has been on the news for the past few months. We are in a very difficult time with so many people struggling and uncertain about what to do. Many countries and families are suffering and going thru extreme loss and I know that many of us are worried. I am here to assure you that we will get thru this! Today I want to educate you about this dangerous virus by giving you information that might help us fight this virus.

According to the WHO and CDC, there is no cure and the best way to heal is to isolate yourself and practice social distancing.

What is a virus? A virus is a submicroscopic infectious agent that replicates only inside living things. It can replicate in plants, animals, bacteria and archea. Covid-19 is a kind of virus that can spread from person to person through droplets and can cause severe complications in the person's lungs, multi-organ failure and in some cases, death.

How can you protect yourself?

1. Avoid close contact with people who are sick

2. Avoid crowds, public environments such as public bathrooms, gas stations, gyms, parties, sharing your hookah pipes and cups etc. If you need to visit public areas, please take disinfectant wipes, sprays, hand sanitizes, gloves and facial masks with you. Click here to learn about how to properly put on and remove gloves to prevent transmission.

3. Clean and disinfect commonly shared areas of in your home such as door knobs, bathrooms, kitchen, refrigerator, couches.

4. Wash your hands frequently for at least 20 seconds each time ( sing happy birthday song twice)

5. Wear a mask when you go outside

6. Get enough sleep and try to avoid too much stress.

7. If you are sick, please call a doctor before going to the hospital so as to avoid spreading the virus or potentially being infected with the virus by others.

As a nutrition enthusiast, I believe that in addition to the guidelines above from CDC, your diet can also help in fighting the corona virus. In addition to social distancing, try being intentional about what foods you are consuming. I am a firm believer that you can eat to heal by focusing on foods that increase your metabolism and immune system. Foods that are rich in vitamins C, D, E, A, and B6. Click here to learn more.
